The Haleakalā Silversword is a rare plant only found on the slopes of the dormant volcano of Haleakalā in Maui that has been categorized as a threatened species. It grows in elevations above 2,100 meters (6,900 feet) which can get very dry, sunny, cold and windy. It flowers only once in its lifespan, which can be greater than 50 years.
